Last year, our cook camp was featured on Food Network. I received such an overwhelming request for short cook camp sessions, that I put together some classes last summer and will be offering them again this summer. Find out more at

Class space is limited with 8 students per class and have already started to fill. $800 per person. Dates are below. I will tailor classes to meet individual needs. For example, if someone wanted to learn how to make bread and bake it in the Dutch oven.......we'll do that!! I have a short horse ride planned in each class plus a bit of fishing. We can also take a short hike and/or drive to see the scenery and wildlife. These classes are designed to be a fun and educational with a bit of vacation and stress relief mixed in.

I also have longer classes which are 4 and 5 weeks long. These classes are designed to teach students the necessary basic skills to secure a job working and cooking for outfitters who use stock and operate in the remote areas of the backcountry. You will learn all types of outdoor cooking techniques using Dutch ovens, propane ovens, the riley wood stove, in an earthen pit, and over the open fire. You will learn basic horsemanship (riding and saddling), some equine first aid and nutrition, take a first aid course, make a leather sheath for your kitchen paring knife, map and compass navigation, and learn to pack gear and groceries for travel on horses and mules. We cover the gamut in baking and cooking skills including making bread, quiche, cream puffs, pies, and cakes. In between all that, you'll have lessons on sourdough basics (then make your own starter), menu planning, cooking for groups (12-14), and cleanliness and safety in the kitchen. Then you'll be ready for the week
long horseback progressive pack trip. Lots of work, but very informative and tons of fun!!

The two week outdoor cooking class teaches cooking techniques in Dutch ovens, propane ovens, the riley wood stove, over a campfire, and in an earthen pit. We also cover baking breads and sourdough basics. You'll learn menu planning, time saving tips, and cooking for groups of up to 12-14 people. This class does not include any basic horsemanship, or the progressive pack trip that is standard at the end of the longer classes. This class is fast paced and enlightening. It could be for you, if wanting to learn outdoor cooking skills and techniques to WOW friends and family or just a brush up course for personal enrichment.
