Ginger Stout Cake

here's a tasty cake I stumbled across last year.  Have made it a few times now in the Dutch.  Soon to become a favorite I think......

Ginger Stout Cake

2 Cups All-purpose Flour
2 Tsp. Ginger, Ground
1 ½ Tsp. Baking Powder
1 ½ Tsp. Baking Soda
¾ Tsp. Cinnamon, Ground, plus additional for garnish
½ Tsp. Salt
¼ tsp. Cloves, Ground
¼ Cup ( 1 stick) Butter, Softened
1 Tbs. Ginger, Fresh and Grated, or 1 tsp. ground
1 Cup Granulated Sugar
½ Cup Brown Sugar, Packed
3 Eggs
1 Bottle (11 oz.) Irish Stout Beer
½ Cup Molasses
Whipped Cream, For Garnish



Preheat oven to 350° F.  spray 13 x 9-inch baking pan (or 12-inch Dutch-oven) with nonstick cooking spray.  Combine flour, ground ginger, baking powder, soda, ¾ tsp. cinnamon, salt and cloves in medium bowl.
Beat butter and grate ginger in large bowl with electric mixer at medium speed until creamy.  Add granulated sugar and brown sugar; beat until light and fluffy.  Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.  Combine stout and molasses in small bowl.  Alternately add flour mixture and stout mixture to butter mixture, beating well after each addition.  Pour batter into prepared pan.
Bake 45 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.  Cool completely in pan on wire rack.  Garnish with whipped cream and additional cinnamon.

Yield: 12-15 servings.
