Camp Stew

2 lb stew meat; cubed
1 medium onion; diced
4 stalks celery; diced
2 cups water
1 teaspoon worchestershire sauce
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 tablespoon Salt
1 teaspoon Sugar
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon lemon pepper
6 medium carrots; quartered
  mushrooms; optional
4 large potatoes; quartered

In 12" dutch oven, brown meat and onion in oil. Add next 10 ingredients.
Cover and simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Add potatoes and cook for
another 30 minutes. Combine 1/4 cup cold water and 2 TB flour. Stir until
smooth. Slowly pour into hot stew. Cook and stir until bubbly and thick.

Yield: 6-8 servings

this was my second try at cooking over my dutch oven, turned out great! everyone in camp loved them both.     it was pretty fun cooking over the campfire, and i think i had good advise for getting my pot seasoned, it seemed to work great!

I'm glad that the meal turned out well. Dutch oven cooking is really just an extension of cooking in the home (or commercial kitchen in my case). Once you understand a few basics, especially heat control, you're set and ready to go.

I'm always impressed by cooks who venture out and try more complex dishes on the first couple of Dutch oven experiences. Good job ...

Also cooked this stew using cubed and browned venison and have had requests to do it again.  Great, useful receipe again.
