I am a retired Special Forces medic, looking to do some guiding in Idaho now that I have the time. I attended a guide school back in 1980, and spent that fall packing and guiding off the Middle Fork of the Salmon. Now that I am retired, I went ahead and went to another guide school this fall to bring me back up to speed, but I was thrown by a mule which caused me to miss out on this last fall season. Now that I am healed up, I am ready to get back at it. It was great finding this site, as it is nice to find some like-minded folks. I just wanted to say hello, and let everyone know how much I appreciate their presence here on this site, especially the folks at Royal Tine for sponsoring the site. Thanks.

The guide school I attended back in 1980 was run by Mike Thomas and Jim Smith out of Challis, really good guys. But, I ended up working for Joe Peck that year. He was definitely an interesting fellow.

The thank yous for my service are much appreciated.

Welcome Arwr!  I went through S.F. training back in 69 and 70.  I always regretted not staying in.  I missed the mountains of Montana and came home.  My Dad grew up in Idaho.  That too is a great place to pack.

I always looked up to S.F. medics.  That was the toughest M.O.S. of all.  I was a weapons specialist.  When I was in training, they had dog lab for medics.  I think that was changed to goat lab.  There was months and months of intense training at Ft. Sam.  A friend of mine spent a year and a half in training, before he was flash qualified.  I never made it to Vietnam, but I heard the job S.F. medics could do there was amazing.  Special Forces is also doing a great job in the Middle East now.

I've learned a lot from the good people on these forums.  Best of luck!....Steve
