Went up and hiked in 4 miles in the lochsa wilderness last week and had an awesome time! either rained or snowed every day but I was able to catch a few moments of sun shine! able to put 3 stocks on bears first one was able to get in on a nice choclate guessing 250 lbs got to 40 yards and was not able to pull it off had a bad shot angle it was getting dark and he was walking over the ridge so no shot on him... the other two were some what bigger nothing huge but good blacks was able to get with in 100 yards before the wind decided it would be funny to switch directions! oh well! to say the least got to see some BEAUTIFUL country saw tons of elk deer and a few bears! here are some pics of the trip! it was my first spot and stalk bear hunt I have always baited them but there is some thing that gets your heart going beeing face to face with some thing that could eat you in a heart beat and all you have is archey equipment! I love it!

I was over there hunting bear last week, snow all over the place.  Did you have much trouble getting around due to snow?  Were you in Unit 10 or 12?

I spent years falling timber over in the Lochsa.   We'd drive over Lolo pass every day to get there.  It took about an hour and a half of driving from where I lived in Montana to the job sites.

There is a ton of game there.  Lot's of bear.  You used to be able to hunt bear with dogs in Idaho, if I remember right.  I'm not sure if that is still legal or not.   I think baiting was legal back in the old days too.

There was some tall timber there because of the exta rain.  Huge cedar trees and tall fir.  Most of my scariest logging stories took place in the Lochsa.

One of the craziest loggers I ever met came from Kooskia.  He worked for Pot Latch.

I've logged up Fish Creek a lot too.  That used to be good deer and elk country.  I heard the woles have them thinned way down now....

They can still run hounds and bait for bear in Idaho.

Good luck wynn55.  I try to go in from Superior, MT, over Hoodoo Pass and into that country, but it'll still be a while.

There's some cool country around Superior.  I used to log there too.  Mike Lapinski still lives in Superior, I think.  He's quite a bow hunter and writer.  He used to fall timber too, till he broke his shoulder.

I used to hunt over toward Alberton, from Superior.  (Stark Mountain). There used to be a lot of elk there.  But that was 25 years ago.  Not sure what it is like now.  Much of that country has been logged too much.  The wolves aren't helping anything either....
