DO NOT start young dogs on bears
. Bear races are "throw your head in the air and run fast and furious" type races. Cat tracks need a dog that 'll put their heads down and grind out a track that does not have much scent. Once a dog starts on bears, its hard to get them to slow down and put their nose on the ground. Once the dogs gets a couple seasons on it, then bears should be fine.

I tried a dog on cats that was started on bears, he was hot nosed and good for a throw in "jumped" cat race. Over all he was not a good bobcat dog (was looking for the race track all the time), no longer have him anymore but from what I hear he is doing good on bear, guess he made a way better beardog than cats, prolly cuz he was started that way I would guess??

Still would've kept that dog if I had more room and ran bears, kind of a dork but I liked him
Happy trails Ax....
