Anyone here do any predator calling for yotes, bobcat, bear and lions?  It is one of my favorite ways to hunt bears.  I have called in two lions so far and 15 bears.  Not sure how many yotes and bobcat.  I used to call in a ton of red and grey fox when I was growing up in MO.  Just wanted to hear some of your experiences screamming. Love callin the dogs.  When they come, they come a runnin'.  Just got a Carlton bear call this summer, gonna try it out.  Never called in any lions or stub tails yet.  Whats the secret for calling bears?  I've heard get them in sight and get close first.

That is probably the most effective way, but I do a lot of cold calling as well in areas with smokin hot bear sign and have had very good success.  I believe the key is NON-STOP calling for a minimum 45 min and normally I stay on stand for an hour.  Anguish and pain in your calling.  I have to put a watch out in front of me where I can see it because trust me calling non-stop for an hour is an eternity and hard work.  Better to have two guys back to back calling so each guy can take breaks during the calling.  Normally if I "hear" the bear coming in it is a brute.  My theroy, he is trying to intimidate whatever is eating whatever is screaming.  If as I slowly scan back and forth suddenly have a bear standing there looking at me it is normally a mid size or smaller bear.  My theory, heor she doesn't want whatever is eating whatever is screaming to kick his butt. Smiley  I have only called in two that I seen first, but both came like they were on a rope.  I also like a coarse call, I use a javelina call since it is loud and gravelly sounding.  I think it works better than your standard conttontail call.  Both lions I have called in we called in while calling for bears and both just suddenlly appeared.  Very cool!

Uswed to call coyotes in Wa. Along with Elk. Down here I have lately been trying the wounded rabit call on Chicken hawks. The **** hawks have nearly anialated my neighbors flock of games. between us we have really thinned them out.

Here's a pic of the only cat I've been able to get so far this season.  I've called in three others, but I wasn't doing the shooting, so I'll leave it at that...(not that it probably would have made a difference.)  My dad shot one with his bow during deer season, and he was understandably proud of that one.
We had an ice storm here last week and temps didn't get out of the teens for 4 or 5 days.  That really got the coyotes hungry; I shot 5 in 3 days.  I really hope that lasts; I'm entered in a calling competition for next weekend.

Yeah, I shot that one with a shotgun.  I was in a tree and shot it when it was about 6 yards out, but it had been almost straight underneath me.  I usually take my shotgun or .22 mag when I'm calling specifically for cats...I shoot coyotes with a .243, and it's too much gun and scope for the timber.
A buddy of mine got jumped by a cat a couple of years ago...so I always put my knife in my lap too... Grin
