Like the old time camp cook tells everyone, "I serve from the four basic food groups - beans, bacon, whiskey and lard." Here's a little twist on a bean recipe that I use.

3 strips bacon
1 apple, cut up small
1 onion, chopped
1 cup golden raisins
1 cup barbeque sauce
3/4 cup brown sugar
3 (16 oz.) cans pinto beans, drained

Fry bacon until nearly done.

Mix bacon pieces, apple, onion, raisins, barbeque sauce, and sugar. Stir in beans and put in dutch oven.

Bake for 45 minutes covered. Uncover and bake for 15 additional minutes.

I'm going to try that!  What kind of apple?  Tart or sweet?  Maybe a Grannie Smith to add a zip?

We'll have to put extra raisins in for Cody! I know how much he loves them.
