Those are little brushes in the middle kind of like the whisker biscuit.

Well, after shooting the Hostage for a couple of weeks, I don't like it as much as I thought at first. If you bump the arrow, it will fall down into one of the empty spots and does not jump back up like a whisker biscuit. I also don't like the way it loads. You can't load it like a standard rest by nocking the arrow then putting it on the rest because the arrow will hit the site. It needs to be kinda of a side load like the WB is. You have to bring the fletchings back through the rest then nock the arrow. It does seem to shoot good though. Jury is still out!

I heard that the biscuit can be loud on the carbon arrows when pulling back.
